mattslaptop247
As some of you pointed out, the old gun i just got has some really nice wallnut on it. I stripped it back to bare wood, wire wooled it smooth and have been applying wallnut oil. I want to get a good glossy finish. Will wallnut oil give this? At the moment it just gets soaked up, it says to apply it for 7 days. Will this do the trick or will I need to get some tru oil o varnish? P.S its not raw oil, it is blended with componds to make it dry quicker. It s called wallnut preperation oil, bought from cayman

Delbert
I still use the same mixture which Alan Grindey recommended Alan is a master craftsmen of the old school making wood furniture he does an amazing line of gun cabinets that would make your eyes water.- available through some of the dealers around Bakewell and Ashbourne (He's also a very fine shooter), his mixture was equal amounts of natural turpentine and boiled linseed oil which if you take your time gives a very durable finish. You might like to look at this site for more information. The advantage of oil finish over varnish is maintainance a scuff on oil finish will polish out whereas its rather more difficult to restore varnish . welshwarrior
I have use TruOil to good effect but prefer to take my time with a 50:50 mix of Walnut Oil and Boil Linseed then add a smidge of french polish to make it set better.
