njc110381
Hey guys. I'm looking for a cheap get by scope for my combi gun. I want a S&B eventually but I just haven't got the money so I plan to put one of these on it as an improvement to the open sights. They're supposed to be £80 but are on sale with one of the big sellers for £30. I figure that for that money I can afford to chuck it later. Does anyone have one? Are they worth having? I don't expect it to be brilliant, just functional! I'm normally against cheap scopes and am first to say save for another month if need be, but for £30 it's not going to be a great loss if it doesn't work. My old Simmons that I had on an air rifle years ago was actually very good compared to the likes of Hawke etc, but I'm not sure if they've gone down hill more recently? lineshooter
Nearly everything scope wise is comming from China, some good, some very bad, two of the guys I shoot with have Simmons Prohunter scopes, they are old, the scopes not the guys , but they have nice clear optics and all the controls are nice and pecise, I think they were made in the Phillipines. But as you say for £30 you can`t go too far wrong.
Mungler
I am interested to see how this works out. Is there a decentish cheapish make that will take the battering from a center fire? Probably not - buy cheap buy twice. I reckon keep hold of your money and wait for the right S&B

mr smith
I bought a 1.5-5x32 from JS Ramsbottom for about £30 to use on my marlin .44.This was described as a shotgun scope so should handle the recoil no probs, haven't put a great deal of rounds through mine with it on yet but so far so good. njc110381
I am interested to see how this works out. Is there a decentish cheapish make that will take the battering from a center fire? Probably not - buy cheap buy twice. I reckon keep hold of your money and wait for the right S&B I find it hard to give a good arguement against that because thet's exactly what I would say. The trouble is work is always short for me in the winter months and I just can't spend S&B money now. Due to all the rain we've been having I've done about a week of work this month and the bills have to come first! The scope I was looking at was from Ramsbottoms too, so given the .44 comment above I'm going to give it a try. All I really expect is for it to give me a better view than the open sights so I'm not asking a lot! In the spring I can just take it off and shove a S&B on there. I'll give the Simmons to a kids air rifle club. Cheap variables usually move zero a bit when the mag is changed but as this will be a sub 100 yard rifle I doubt it will move enough to matter.
