Snap Cap
Not sure if this subject should go here.. Been stuck in doors with the weather being typically British lately, but this morning it was quite clear so thought it was worth a go, rung my mate, he was at defcom 1 with his wife so he jumped at the opportunity. I rung the farmer to let him know we would be on our way and was disgusted when he told me that we could not shoot today because he has a group of people running over his land doing something called Geocaching? Never heard of it so a quick google told me its a group of people who use GPS systems to find hidden treasure and then post thier "experiences" on facebook etc. Not one to knock peoples hobbies but when it gets in the way of mine...... I cannot understand Mick only last month he told us he was giving us notice that he would be in the new year letting his entire farm out to a syndicate and he would try and get us on it. And now he is doing this as well. I have this farm well mapped, it took months to suss it all out, flightlines permanent hides in good spots etc. I can only shoot weekends and there are not many left in the year before he hands the rights over to this syndicate, It would not have bothered me if I blanked today, just want to get out there. I'm not a happy chappy.

Bluebarrels
Loosing ground to a syndicate,is probalbly a fear for most of us with a decent permission, especially when youve gone to the time and trouble of mapping it and building perm-hides,i do sympathise with your situation and hope you hang in there, but if i was in your position i would be working on a new permission-for the new year, just in case, good luck BB
Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
I too sympathise with you but our biggest problem for all of us we can not dictate to landowner tenants etc what they do or allow on there property. I have lossed some cracking shooting rabbiting but I always look back on the good bags times I have had there. And then focus on finding new ground which can be fun and dissapointing as well. But it can turn out good in the end as I have just got back some 2000 acres after lossing the ground well I did not loss it but refused to use with a cowboy outfit. But the story goes cracking land shot 1000s for the last fifteen years or so then one amazing year a well know pigeon guide and son got the rights as well . But the land was tenated to the farmer by another landowner now when this tenancy agreement came up for renewal the farmer who I shoot for canceled the agreement and gave it to another farmer who I shoot for . The bonus is in the leaseing agreement I am the only person named who is allowed to shoot on the land. The morale of this story is whats goes around comes around. Ps the said pigeon forgot the little matter of telling the landowner that he was taking money for others to shoot on he,s land. And also they had alot of foreign guess who shot what they like and where ever they like pheasants etc ect . Regards
Snap Cap
I'm knocking on doors at the moment, but so far as expected no joy. There is a farm close to the one we have that is promising but so far we have not had a yes or no from the farmer. I hate seeking out new permissions. So difficult to get yet so easy to lose. I'm hoping Mick will give us the nod on this new farm if and when he speaks to the owner, he said he knows him quite well but there are a few guns over there already apparently which may cause a few issues. I think the moral to the story is,keep looking for land, even if you have a good permission, you just never know when things may change!and at least if you have 2 or 3 permissions to shoot over and the worst happens, for whatever reason, your still left with some shooting, keep at it mate im sure all will end well BB
Snap Cap
Your right, going to have to throw ourselves into finding a new shoot, one ain't gonna come to us. Going to miss that shoot, had some cracking days over there and some bad ones. Carol, Micks wife would make a point of when we where on our way home stopping us and piling us with duck eggs and homemade cakes, her tea cake was second to none!! Its great when you have that kind of relationship going with the landowner. Normally you are just a gun to them and as long as they know you are over there generally want nothing to do with you. But Mick and his missus where a tip top couple.

I'm not a happy chappy. I found one of these when I was roost shooting. It was an old ammo box. It had CD's, fluffy toys, bangles and suchlike in it. There was a log book for people to note when they had found it. There was also an invite that you were welcome to take anything you liked from the Cache but, if you do, then please leave something of your own. I was sooooooo tempted to take a Frank Sinatra CD and leave a dead Pigeon it its place :yp:
