njc110381
I've got a great result with my FAC wording. It now has the usual Deer, Fox and Vermin under the specific calibres but at the end states "and any other lawful quarry". I'm really pleased with myself as it now means I can shoot anything legal with any of my calibres. How a simple sentence can make a bloke so happy! njc110381
I've since realised that it was an addition to the ACPO guidelines that have just come out regarding the use of large Deer type calibres for smaller quarry. It seems that Gloucestershire support this document, which is all good for me. Hopefully we'll see a lot more of us picking this condition up in the future? It really is handy. All the trouble I went to to try to get Boar on my FAC (we have loads in the forest of dean, not far from me) to be told I needed evidence of Boar on my permission. Now it's all freed up and I can shoot what I like it seems, as long as it's in line with the law. It covers humane dispatch too, as that is a legal use for a firearm. Could be handy, you never know what the farmers are going to ask you to shoot! If they know I can save them the cost of getting the vet out it should earn me some brownie points
CharlieT
NJC Just a point of interest, as I intend to ask for such a condition next time mine is up for renewal. I have always had a separate condition on my fac for humane dispatch. This allows me to stay within the law should I need to shoot a farm or domestic animal during the course of my work. My condition states "..................shall also be used for the humane killing of animals" Now, as your fac states "and any other lawful quarry" and remembering that the definition of quarry is "a hunted animal" I would be interested to know if you have confirmation in writing from your licensing manager that you are covered should you shoot a cow, sheep, dog, or even a guinea pig because I do not believe domestic animals would be covered by the term quarry. I do know however that the ACPO FELWG were looking into the matter of a general condition for humane slaughter so perhaps something has happened. njc110381
That's an interesting point actually. I never really looked at it like that! I did ask on the phone if quarry included humane dispatch and I was told it did, but to take the condition literally it does suggest I couldn't? There's always the shotgun! Charlie Vey useful thought there Charlie! I have written myself a note to go with my FAC that will remind me of your wise words when the time comes for renewal. ft
Steve_C
I recently applied for an unrelated variation to my FAC, and it came back with the "and any lawful quarry" clause on it. I hadn't asked for it, it just appeared.
