picardy
Looking to buy a magnet in the near future just want to know the best battery to use 12v0olt 10amp etc. I was out last weekend with a mate of our shoot having a go at the pigeons he took his magnet but from 0730 till 1330 ish he said he got through 6 12v 7amp batterys and he needs to keep the rotary spining quick is his the norm as i would of thought a smaal car or motorbike battery would outlast all those batterys and be near the sme weight. What your thoughts please preety new to decoying so in need of advice many thanks..

garyb
7ah batts don't last long after repeat charge / drain cycles I'd want nothing less than a 15ah+ battery for use with a magnet. PM Webber - he has some good deals GB
deny essex
If its a wiper motor type magnet the rough battery consuption is around the 1.75 to 2.5 amp per hour depending on the loading (real birds , wind, arm weight, speed etc) so at a max of 2.5 amp consumption a 7amp hour battery would last about 2.75 hours in good nick and with a full charge. chris t
I use a hypaflap magnet and have a 12v 7ah and that does me 2 full days easily, probably has lots of charge left over even. Could be a short or maybe an old motor on your magnet that's draining the power. If you have a multimeter with an dc ampmeter on it, you could put that in series with the battery and find out how much power it's consuming. Also check that your batteries are holding charge after being charged up. ie: charge battery disconnect and leave off charger for several hours then check voltage with multimeter should hold steady at about 12.9v or more.
