mattslaptop247
I am part of a small syndiacte. Up untill now I have just been beating, but the shoot captain has asked me along to shoot in a fortnight. I mainly shhot clays so have loads of 3gram no.7's. We mailnly shoot pheasants, the odd partridge, hare, snipe etc and fox's if we see them. I was wondering what shot size would be best. v-max
Anything between 28g-32g in a No.6 or 5 shot. I personally like a 28g-30g No.6 for general game/pigeon/rabbit shooting but for high game/roosting doo's etc i go for a No5 in 30g-32g. For hares which i very rarely shoot i use 32g No.5 or a No.4 or 3 in 32g-42g & for fox 36g-50g of No.3-2-1-BB but it depends on range & if a fox came by me at 20m & a safe shot & would give it a 30g No.6 it's more than able & distance is the main factor for anything you shoot at. TheHunter
I'm not going to contradict anything v-max has posted except to add that you haven't mentioned if you are an experienced shot (or not). Good contact with your current load is going to provide the required results on everything mentioned, I haven't shot foxes with a shotgun but would if it was under my feet (so to speak) don't just have a go at distance. My advice is buy a couple of boxes of 4's or 6's for the day and tell everyone it was some leftovers you had in the cupboard from LAST TIME. LOL PS, if you do only clip the quarry, please find it and move it on ASAP Edited December 8, 2009 by TheHunter
