iamspartacus
hi all, i'm new to this site but have been decoying for a couple of years now. Only thing is i've done all my shooting in the winter and spring on rape because never had time in the summer. Thought id give it a bash this summer but struggling with tactics. been out once or twice with bags of around 20 and some of single figures. Thing is I don't have much confidence about where theyre gonna be and which way theyre gonna come into the field, what will they be feeding on and when? can anyone help? old rooster
Look out for peas and beans being harvested at this time of year, just about missed the rape harvest now and they don't seem to be much interested in other cereal crop stubbles (at least not around here). There will soon be a lean spell and you'll have to do your own looking around locally, take your kit with you and try to get straight on to whatever they are feeding on at the time . Graham20g
Hi there im in the west midd,s all the bird,s I see are going down onto barley stubble but not in the greatest of numbers. As for which way they are comming into your fields i.e flight paths ,you need to take some time and a pair of fieldglasses and just watchthem till you recognise there flight,s then your of n running. Thats unless it,s like two of my fields with footpath,s on two sides of them on thoes two I get myself a safe spot and try to pull them with a horseshoe pattern not the most succesfull but you get a fair bit of sport As for the lean time in late september if you have any tree,s with ivy set up by them as they tend to feed on the berrys at that time Best of luck Graham.. Will Beasley
here in oxfordshire the are on pretty much everything! Amazingly they are STILL on the few fields of Rape left by the no-so-intensive farmers in these parts. We are also having good bags over wheat and they are just starting to hit bean stubbles now. Not much (if any Barley stubbles left round these parts.)
M ROBSON
All the good bags we've had this month have been on Rape stubble, with a few fields of wheat stubble attracting good numbers too. So far this month has been our best ever, lets hope it continues. Mark.

iamspartacus
thanks guys, ive been scouring the land for pea and bean stubble but no-ones really anywhere near harvesting it round here (suffolk), went out today over beans and just tucked in a corner where the crop was flattened. Had about 15 but it was just too calm, not a breath of wind about. glad to hear you managed your doubles rob, i missed with the second barrel on both my opportunities!! guess i'll just have to get out there more often!
