Are you talking about dummies or game?

If it is dummies then chances are you have done too much and the dog is bored of them.

If it is game then I would get a few cold birds and make a few retreives but make them fun. Play with her while you throw the bird, make sure there is plenty of praise etc and use treats if necessary.

I did this last season when my springer stopped picking pheasants, it turned out he had been spurred by a cock pheasant and he had taken a dislike to them. After a few fun retreives he was soon back picking them up.

id the same bother back in the summer what i did was to throw a dead crow into water and the dog swam out and brung it back i just gave him a few of these , then i fooled about about with the crow shaking it in front of the dog and then throwing it and letting him run in on it this did the trick after a few days of this he was back to normal retriving routine no bother

she also pulls feathers out of the pigeon sometimes as if shes plucking it, im now gonna contact a trainer to help me out because i took her shooting with me this evening and things have gone from bad to worse, shes getting real naughty :good:

Sounds like it's the problem I mentioned. Try using cold partridge with the wings held with an elastic band, if that works OK move up to a pheasant tied in the same way and then a pigeon in a nylon stocking. Get her confidence up before going back to warm game.

Also, start the retrieve training by working backwards from the 'hold'. When she is sitting and holding properly take a step back and ask her to 'come' or whatever command you use for the retrieve. Then extend the distance. Finally, once you are sure that she is holding properly during the whole exercise move up to allowing her to pick up herself on short retrieves.

The idea is here is to get her to hold properly across the back of the bird so the wings are in the dog's mouth not the breast feathers.
