shore_shot
While reading one of my favourite books (1954 by Robin page) i came across yet again a very poinent paragragh. "The reasons are easy to see.Much of the oppsosition to Blood sports has its roots in the labour partie.Yet a sizable propotion of coarse fishamen."are working class From traditional labour strongholds.consequently parlimentary moves against certain country sports, but excluding fishing must be seen as pure nonsense-a mixture of political opportunism and personal hypocrisy.it is summed up well by a peice of anonymous verse: My anger simply knows no bounds, When wicked tories ride to hounds. I'd rather watch the live fish dangling, When the socialists go angling. it made sense to me anyway shore_shot
henry d
Thats strange I spoke to Robin at the first march in London and he wasn`t gainst hunting per se he just saw it as another attack on a countryside "under seige" as I remember he put it,he just didn`t hunt. Piebob
I think shore_shot is demonstrating the hypocrisy of the Labour party. Traditionally or historically, a party to represent (and voted for by) working class folks, a large number of whom are coarse fishermen. The hypocrisy is therefore- 1) We are against hunting & shooting as they are blood sports 2) Some blood sports are OK though, as they are done by our members (i.e. coarse fishing) The verse is representing the hypocrasy of the Labour party. On the one hand getting angry at seeing a hunt (bloodsport), yet at the same time admitting to enjoying "watch a live fish dangling" (bloodsport). That's how I read it anyway - hope I've made sense. Cheers, Piebob
