chidcp1
Hi Folks, thanks for all the replies - I cannot believe the speed and number of replies that come through so quickly, it's good to see such an active board of enthusiasts. Looks like a pretty mixed reaction to Avalon - though the positive comments seem attributable to Clive, rather than the shop. OK, a further question - which should probably be a separate post, but I'll start off asking here. My preferred choice of gun - once the SGC arrives, is likely to be between a new Beretta 686E (which is what I have been having lessons with - at Greenfields) or a secondhand 682 Gold E, which would appear to be similar prices. My reason for posting the original question, was more to do with the secondhand 682 - if I went for a new 686E, then almost certainly it would be from Chris Potter, as they are only about 25 minutes away. But if I saw a secondhand 682 Gold E, that was a distance away at an unknown (to me) shop, should I go for it? So what's people's opinions? New 686E or secondhand 682 Gold E? Use would more likely be exclusive sporting clays. I know some people may suggest a cheaper gun to start with, but I'd prefer a good gun to start with, that should last me indefinitely! Cheers Clive

wymberley
You didn't mention originally that you'd had some coaching so it's good that you've twigged what I was hinting at. Good shooting, Cheers
Bazooka Joe
The manager is what I would describe as a big fish in a small pond. Arrogant & V self opinionated and lacking in intra personal skills. Conversation yesterday regarding this thread, & I'm led to believe this manager is also a Mod on another shooting forum....! Maybe wrong ? Seems the above quote describes him to a "T" there aswell......#### sticks as you say, Needless to say I'm not a member of that forum no longer, BJ. magnetandsteel
If you shot with the 686 and liked it, stick with it I would say. I bought a second hand 686 game as my first gun and wouldnt change it for anything. Well maybe a Thai bride but thats a different story. jimmyb79
686E vs 682 gold E - go with what you like. I have a 686E and love it. I use it for everything except trap shooting. Its a great sporting gun and light enough to wander around the fields all day. I've never shot with a 682, but I know it's a dedicated clay gun so if you have any aspirations of game shooting, you'll probably want to stick with the 686E. Nice choice to make though! Good luck.
