ashtons99
Ive just found a hairline crack in my stock extending from the trigger area to the bottom of the teardrop on the side behind the action. The crack is hardly noticeable but Im sure it will get worse with use. The gun ,a 425 Grade 5, although about 8 years old has had little use, has great featured wood and Ive had it teague choked. I love the gun but Im at a loss to know what to do. Do I? : A. Trade the gun in against a new model and hope the dealer doesnt notice the crack B: Trade it in and point out the crack C: Try and get a replacement stock Grade 5 which may or may not match the forend D: Try and get it repaired, its in the thinest (cheek part?) of the stock so Im not sure of the feasibility of this Any advice would be helpful

jimmyb79
If it was me, I'd definitely go for the repair unless you were thinking of a new gun anyway. There are plenty of good gunsmiths about who will repair the stock as good as new. Straightshooter on here has an excellent reputation. If you do end up trading it in, you'll lose a fair chunk of value for the crack, so it would have to be a matter of your own conscience as to whether you pointed it out or not. I know what I'd do - and I wouldn't be visiting that shop again!

seeker
A good repair can be both invisible and totally functional - as others have said ' get it looked at by a professional. It may also be worth checking for anything in your House Contents Insurance. I had one that covered the gun up to the front gate. ... damage "in the home"! Good luck
