scolopax
For pheasants you really cannot beat a good crop of Kale, english partridge also like it. Maize can also be excellent and is almost essential if you release big numbers of Redlegs, but may well not last the season, whereas Kale will go for two, three even four years. Saying all that we do well with mustard, but it does need feeding.
Quickshot
If your going to try the maize route, make sure you put millet down the edges and possible in between also. This will help hold more birds as it will be warner in the bottom of the maize, and there will be food for them until the maize starts to fall over. CharlieT
My advice would be to stick with kale and have a strip of maize round the edge. Having your feed ride between the maize and the kale will help hold birds in the plots. As the maize goes back in the winter the birds will be established in the kale but still have a little cover from what is left of the maize.
