Hi lads -- On a game gun i have just aquired ( AYA S/S ) the fixed chokes are set 1/2 and full.

i.d like to use it for game as well as pigeon and maybe the odd clay session .

should i have the chokes altered all leave them alone .

Also whats the difference between 1/2 and full choke , as in size of pattern and range.

Any opinions , i was thinking , how about 1/2 and 1/2 for a good all round fixed choke .

thanks in advance .

Darren .

I would leave well alone.

The 1/2 and full chokes are "standard" game chokes and are fine for most general live game shooting and even sporting clays.

You might have a problem with skeet, but who wants to shoot that ?

The range will be not be appreciably different whatever chokes you have, the cartridge load weight and shot size will influence that, as it will the pattern.

When you start knocking the birds down, you will forget all about the chokes.

If you miss a few, it will be your fault, not the chokes.

Cranfield, im shocked and dismayed , you dont like skeet , how do you have fun at the range then :o :) , you have to be able to shoot it first though ;)

choke it tight then try it ,sorts the men out from the wannabees ,theres nothing like ink dotting 4 high or low ;)

or grenading 1 and 2 high 6 or 7 low ,,,,,,,,, sod it got me going have to go to the range now ;);)
