inthedark
This came up as an advisory on MOT - slight play on idler box/arm pivot point. So I call my local parts supplier (FMS) and they quote £160 for a pattern replacement. I then have a look at it, and there are two nylon bushes top and bottom of the pivot point which are a slip fit, one's collapsed and I ring the toyota dealer for replacement bushes but they only supply the complete unit and no repair kit is listed - £230. Milner off road do a new unit for £50 (dont you just luv em?) 10 minutes of internet work and I ring Toyota back with the parts numbers that they dont list and they supply both bushes and the grease seal for under a tenner! To55ers. Thanks for listening, I now feel much better.
al4x
good luck, tried to do my fourtraks idler arm and have to say it was a proper PITA, came off oj but getting the bushes out was hard then getting the new ones in was worse even using a vice as a press. Lot better than main dealer prices though, sure I got the bushes on their own from milners
inthedark
Lovely!! I did the back spring bushes on a fourtrak once, ended up with oxy gear on them and big hammer. Needless to say the bush caught fire (which i expected) but when i clouted it with the birmingham spanner it exploded and welded all my fingers together with nylon. It would have been worth a photo to nuts magazine if I hadnt had welding gloves on.
Delbert
Bushes are a royal basquet to drift off especially metalastic unless you have exactly the right drift they just spring back. I have many memories of my father swinging the BFO hammer at the void bushes on Cortina's preheated to cherry red they still stuck until one saturday he called me over to see his new toy an airchisel! Then a fairly new innovation in the motor trade he leant it against the bush brrrrr and it popped out in a trice , he was wearing a smile from ear ro ear . With my history with Landies it was one of first air tools I bought very cheap and essential.
