the farm ive got permission on plants a fair bit of rape,do the pigeons eat the fresh sown seed when this is planted? last year we were late getting permission to shoot this area and we got alot of pigeons in when the rape was a few inches high they were eating the green leaves,is this a food they like? i thought the green leaves would be a last resort.also when they harvest the rape is this a good time to decoy them?

hi markyboy yes they will eat the fresh sown seed and they will eat the rape in the earl stages of growth once it gets to hight round here they move to set asides chickweed clover as for decoying it depends on whether the spray the rape or no if its cut you better srock up on shells ??? if they spray it they dont tend to like it once its been sprayed  but you can get decoying over rape most of the season good luck m8

pigeons will be mainly feeding on rape leaves this time of year, it is one of the most testing times of year to decoy pigeons. they will be in big flocks and more offten than not one bang from the gun and they will move on for the rest off theday,

but get it right on the day and you will have a real good days shooting.

if i were you i would look back for previouse posts about rape on pigeon watch(you may find a few clues) ???
