George1990
Anyone have any experience of putting black tights over pigeon shells to make them look like crows? Got a load of pigeon decoys and this would be a far cheaper option. Does the grey show through too much and does the hollow bottom make the the tights go floppy or look unrealistic? And did it bring them in? Cheers
SirFox
Sound like a good diea. The shape of the decoy might be a bit off puting though. Would be good as crow decoys cost more than pigeon decoys. I've found that crow decoys need to be really realistic to the get the pirates to play ball. Try it and let us know. Bluebarrels
I do quite a lot of crow decoying, and admit crow full body decoys can soon fill the decoy bag what ive done and trust me it works,is to paint a dozen pigeon shells matt black, and ive fitted a wire clip on the bottom to nip the decoy bottom, which makes the decoy slimmer, more like a Jackdaw. This works very well i was out the other day with turbo33 shooting crows using these decoys ,mixed in with some full body deeks, and we had a fair bag of blackies for this time of year, see sporting pics section. You can even mount them on the wobble sticks you get for pigeon deeks to add some movement and the good thing about them is they stack away nicely :look: BB
George1990
Cheers might paint a few. I've decided I'll try the tights though hopefully next weekend and see they do the business, then I won't lose any pigeon decoys Let you know if they work, then you can have interchangeable decoys - 2 for the price of

George1990
Haha. Went down Primark today and picked some up. Had to spend longer than I would have liked in that particular section of the shop comparing prices and was baffled by technical female jargon. Apparently there are different 'denier' grades of tights, which I worked out was how thick the were so how black they looked. I went for 50 denier, £1 a pair. Bought 3 pairs which should do 12 decoys. I went into BHS first but there were too few people around so I didn't want to be seen wondering around the panties section on my own hahaha. Must say though they are very comfortable. I'll go home next weekend and see how they look and put some photos up. I'll put some photos up of them on the decoys too haha. And I'll take them shooting too see they pull in the birds. Think socks would be a tight fit.
George1990
Right, gave it a go and I thought they looked good when out in the in the pattern. Forgot the lead for my phone so can't put the pics I took up... One pair did 4 decoys, and it was raining a lot but this didn't have a detrimental effect to the appearance of em which was good. Used a power crow call and got a couple of them to come in, but I missed. Didn't help that I forgot to defrost the crows for the magnet, so turned it on too late when the wings were just about supple enough, but by which time they'd either moved on or realised there was something fishy. Also spooked a couple just by blinking or so it seemed. Certainly don't commit as easily as good old pigeons. Landowner's started spreading the pile of horse terd and old bedding out on the stubble so when I'm back in a couple of weeks will give it another bash - this time with defrosted crows and when it isn't twatting it down with rain. Also in a better position, as I discovered today my choice wasn't ideal. Didn't shoot any but lessons were learned
