robbobsam
Hiya Guys, I went decoying today with my new Daystate airwolf rifle, I set up a hide with some camo netting and a basha and hit a few birds, the problem is the hide was a nightmare, the wind kept blowing and the hide was getting a right bashing. I used to decoy with shotguns and it was very sucessful but i prefer the idea of using an air rifle but today has put me off. I have been online and I like the idea of trying a Ghillie Suit and lying on my snipers mat and plugging em off that way instead. Have any of you guys had experiences with a ghillie suit, or can you ofer me some good advice with the hide?
bothbarrels
Try using some tent pegs to pin the hide to the ground, once you have the net suspended on hide poles you can stake it out and keep it tight with the pegs. ( otherwise it's a bit like a tent flapping in the wind) also you can lay branches on it to add more weight. the Ghillie suits are good you just need to wedge yourself into the brush or a hedgerow. I think they get quiet hot tho!!! lol Good luck mate BB.
utectok
I with the last post I have a guy rope in green nylon on each pole the trick I find works in really windy days is to use three pegs per pole. I use bamboo rods and put two in a v into the ground with a small v created above ground and the third one goes into the v above ground and push it in towards the pole. It's a kind of subterainan tripod that is really solid. Works for me !
Al Downie
I like the idea of trying a Ghillie Suit and lying on my snipers mat and plugging em off that way Have often wondered about a ghillie suit for rabbits, but if it's pigeons you're after you'll need to think about how your shape will look from above as they're flying in. I guess that if you were in the 'typical' prone shooting position, then unless you were lying in cover which matched your suit very well, your shape would be quite obvious even in the suit. Beardo
bungee cords are also useful for stabilising your hide.
