  1. Sorry Guys, I shouldn't have posted the link, I thought it was just my email that wasn't allowed. Sorry Mods. If you want the link to switch P.M me. It is a great bit of kit and works great.
  2. Ian, That may be the case Ian and I wouldn't dis-believe you, but I think it speaks for itself when you look on the 6mbr site and nearly all the top shooters use the Redding Competition dies or similar. How many use the Lee dies. I think that speaks for itself. I carried out a similar experiment to you with my mates Lee dies and I couldnt get it to group very well. I use my gear with the very same components and not only did it give tighter groups, but it was so much easier to use. BTW I wasn't the one taking the shots with both sets of ammo, my mate was. He has since sold his Lee gear and bought Redding. Anyhow guys, Its been fun on here tonight as ever. Thanks for the banter, I have enjoyed it honestly. Take Care and play safe. Rob xxx
  3. I spoke to Reloading solutions, Midway uk, and Norman Clarkes at Rugby and they all told me that If I wanted to make good quality ammo to get RCBS or Redding. Lee is ok for making basic ammo but the quality of the reloading equipment is not as good as RCBS or Redding. So with that info to hand from prominent experts in the field I steered clear of Lee equipment. I have since used some Lee gear from a friend and found it to be of a poor quality and not as easy to use as my Redding gear. Come on guys, you must all be joking me here, some of the basic stuff is good like the case trimmer and primer tool. But the dies and press are really poor compared to Redding and RCBS. If you find the Redding and RCBS gear to be expensive just tell the truth...... "That stuff is really good but I just cannot afford it that is why I use the Lee stuff!" There, I have done it for you.
  4. If you go YouTube put a search in for ammosmith. He is a real expert in the reloading field. He has a shed load of videos and its in plain speak.
  5. I agree Rich, If I was him I would buy new lapua. But christmas is coming and lapua cases are around £90 for 100. Lapua Cases in .243. A lot of cash to find near christmas, also if he is shooting up to 100yds then these will do fine. The different cases wont make much difference up to 100yds.
  6. Its here too..... He answers emails personally. Try him out. I have no need to big myself up. As I said, when I research a topic I do it properly. I know it may surprise some of you guys the lengths that I go to find out good information, but there you go. If you want to know the best powder to use behind a bullet ask the guy who made the bullet. As I said in a previous thread. Read and learn as much as you can about a topic. Buy the best gear you can afford. Apply what you have read... Hence sub 1" groups at 200yds with factory rifle. If you want to see it done in person I am prepared to demonstrate. It aint rocket science !!!
  7. To: ************ Subject: Re: FAO Walt Berger .243 Winchester Load Data. Date: Mon, 25 Oct 2010 16:14:39 -0400 From: ************** Hi, Load the bullet 0.010 (ten thousands) off the rifling's and since ( I used H4350) you have H414 load 44.5 grains of H414 and see happens. Make sure you have chamfered the inside of the case mouth so you DO NOT damage the base of the flat base bullet. Walt Berger Berger Bullets Technical Advisor ^^^^^^^ Just one of the many emails I have exchanged with Walt Berger. You guys amaze me.....Someone actually got in touch with Walt Berger and because it is something that you guys didnt think of it cannot be true. You guys never cease to amaze me. The email address is there ^^^^^^^^^^^^ try him yourself. As i said. I have no need to make it up !!!
  8. Snowz......Please calm down, you've had your say and you don't agree with me. Fine !!! You are now making yourself look like an ill educated chav with your obscenities. Go and watch the T.V with a cup of tea for a while and calm down and come back later. I have not taken offense and I am a big enough guy to take your criticism. Chill out and calm down. If you aint ill already you soon will be at this rate. BTW, I dont think I am some sort of expert, I have been reloading about 6 months, but that doesn't really tell the full story. I have been reloading and trialling loads in my rifle 2 FULL DAYS A WEEK for about 4 months. I have spent £500+ on bullets, powders and cases not to mention the initial outlay of £1200 on reloading gear. I have spent days and days learning from a myriad of people from Walt Berger at Berger bullets to guys on various website forums. I think I have crammed a lot in and I would consider myself to be a competent reloader by most standards.
  9. If you download this onto your PC it will give you all the data you are looking for. Hunting Nut Ballistics Software. If you need a hand getting it working let me know via pm and I will talk you through it. It has most of the functions that Nightforce Exbal has without the £100 price tag.
  10. I stumbled across this software yesterday and I think it is really good. I loaded my load details into it to compare it to my Nightforce Exbal readings (£100 approx) and it does a lot of the things the Exbal does for free and gives very similar readings too. I wish I had this 6 months ago. Hunting Nut Ballistics Software.
  11. If it will make you feel better you do that mate. Take care and calm down. If it helps you, feel free to post what you like. I promise not to take offense.
  12. snowz, what are you talking about are you taking medication I have been liasing with Walt Berger for over a month now and with his assistance I have managed to perfect a great load for my rifle. Walt initially told me to try a 95grain VLD I think which required a 1 in 9 barrel I think. It didnt work in my rifle. But according to Walt it does in some. This is called trialling. Then you bounce your findings off of others to learn from their experiences too. This is how loads are developed for different rifles. I trialled and bounced my findings off of you guys in the long range forum. I found on your forum that if you didn't do exactly what the guys in the click did, how and when they told you they would try and berate you as you are doing here. I think your avatar sums you up perfectly. I think you are a ***
  13. I think the police have a very difficult job with regards firearms licensing. If they make it too easy for guns to be purchased they are slagged off. If they make it too hard for shooters to get guns they are slagged off for it. I think we should have a national firearms licensing department to get national uniformity and we need tight regulations to stop unsuitable people getting firearms. It really grips my Sh#t when I hear people knocking them all the time, I have a lot of friends that are police officers and we need to support them not crucify them. Before we start slagging them off we need to ask ourselves a question...Why wont they let me do this or have this ?...... Hopefully you will then reflect and see the light before you start slagging them off. Half the time they are just stopping chavs have guns that they don't need or shouldn't have anyway.
  14. I have been doing a lot of experimenting recently with Berger bullets in my .243 rifle and was getting a little despondent with the results. Then a guy from the USA on the long range hunting website told me to try contacting Berger Bullets direct. I sent them an email not really expecting to get a proper reply but to my surprise the following day I had a reply in my in box from Walt Berger himself, (Mr Berger Bullets) he is lovely old man and was incredibly helpful suggesting seating depths and loads in my Tikka and after many days trials I achieved the results I wanted. If you are going through the same turmoil drop him a line, he is a very helpful guy. And he really does know what he is talking about.
  15. I think its great too. Keep it up. I have spent a lot of time and effort trialling loads and bullets. I now have a good one sorted. It was a real nightmare trying and trying but I now have a great load using Berger bullets and Varget. Its great to know you guys follow my progress. Some people sit just sit around and watch others achieve things, some get up and try to achieve things. Since the dates above I now have a lot more land to shoot over and a further 3 rifles on my FAC. The new rifles are .20cal and .308 as well as the .22air rifle. Can anyone recommend a load for the .20cal as that is my next project. BTW, What is the point you are making, the fact that I have achieved a lot in a short period of time. Or do you think I am making it all up. Let me assure you, I have taken up FAC in the last 6 months, purchased the reloading gear and have now managed to get some really good groups by trialling different bullets and powders. I dont see a major issue. I work 4 on 4 off and in my 4 off I shoot most days. What really annoys me is how long and how much it has cost me to achieve the results I have. If you don't believe me, I really don't care. Just because you cannot do it, It doesn't mean others can.
  16. I have a Tikka T3 in super Varmint .243, I think its a great rifle, very accurate if you get the load sorted. Only problem is it is very heavy with a mod on and I gotta be honest, the stock is a bit plastic feeling. Having said that I wouldn't be in a hurry to sell it and the adjustable cheek support is very helpful with the Nightforce 56mm objective lens. I have never had or shot an X-Bolt so I cannot pass comment on one.
  17. I know I am cutting my own throat , but I am inclined to agree with al4x, bite the bullet and buy 100 lapua or norma cases. If you want these though let me know what they are worth to you and I will post em. Let me know. I can re-size before I send em if you want.
  18. I have some if you want it. I have about 140 cases and they are Hornady Privvy Federal Winchester Norma. When I bought my rifle I tried factory ammo first before deciding to go down the reloading route I have reloaded the norma cases twice but the others have not been touched since firing. What are they worth to you ?
  19. Redgum, Just a little word of advice. If you keep the cases submerged in the vinegar they will not etch. I made the same mistake on some Norma cases. They left a mark at the fluid level line across all the cases that were not quite submerged. I like you had to polish the line off, I used fine wire wool though.
  20. Can you post more.....I just love your avatar.
  21. Yes, a mate at my gym has some and has just sold it after trying my gear and seeing the difference in the ammo produced. He had a Sako rifle and couldn't get it to group under 1" at 100yds with his "LEE" homeloads. He asked me to try and make a load for him and within 1 afternoon I managed to get the rifle grouping consistently using Berger 80 grain bullets and varget with my gear. I tried to use his gear to produce the same loadswith really **** results. I just couldnt get them to seat consistently and measuring the seating and adjusting the seating was very difficult. Lee gear is ideal if you are on a shoestring and are happy with 1-2" groups at 100yds. I am not happy with that sort of grouping so I buy better. It really isn't rocket science....... read the books, buy the gear and take your time........Result !!!
  22. That is a very nice piece of kit. I use all Redding gear. I have a full set of comp dies which work really well. I have not had to do a full length size yet, I only ever neck size. I resize to .001" below finished size and only resize .1" deep. I clean the inside of the necks with wire brush in slow drill to ensure clean and uniform. A friend has RCBS and he does well with them too. I wouldn't use Lee if given to me as a gift. If you just want to make cheap ammo and you shoot 100yards and don't mind if it is in a 1-2" group then lee is fine. Contact any reloading center eg. Midway uk, Reloading solutions, Norman Clarkes etc...etc...etc.... they all say the same. If you want top notch results buy top notch gear........ buy cheap....you make cheap. Ask any "TOP NOTCH" tradesman about his tools and he will say the same, do you ever see top notch tradesmen with B&Q tools ?? I am sure there may be someone somewhere that has managed to make a decent bullet with Lee equipment once or twice......but even a busted clock tells the right time twice a day.
