Langer
Sorry to appear so thick, but I'm new to this Gun size... 28", 30" etc... Does this equate to the barrel length? and how does this affect choice?? What about but length? Thanks
zorro
Sorry to appear so thick, but I'm new to this Gun size... 28", 30" etc... Does this equate to the barrel length? and how does this affect choice?? What about but length? Thanks To me it doest really make a diff, i still cnt hit anything whatever the barrels lol. But the way i was told is the longer barrels are more pointable but traverse a bit more slowly where as the shorter barrels traverse more quickly . it totally confused me so i stcu with 30's I dont know if this is true or not, i will be interested to see what the diff is..if any! monkeymagic1969
Butt length would depend on your height and/or the length of your arms - i am 5'10" and a 14 &1/2" length of pull seems to fit me fine barrel length is very dependent on personal opinion i think (or what people prefer), i personally like the longer barrels as it tends to slow your swing down There are many people on here that are far more qualified than myself, who will chip in with more answers for you i'm sure. allthegearandnoidea
There was an article I read recently, I think in last weeks shooting times, that goes into the history of barrels lengths. Apparently a couple of hundred years ago some guns have barrel lenghts of 6 feet.
jinxy72
simple rule of thumb to remember is ... the longer the barrel the slower the gun will swing ( as such ) now a longer barrel does have its advantages in some situ's ... same as having a shorter barrel does in others longer barrels are less twitchy and more stable for things like .... distance targets or trap targets etc middle of the road length ( for an o/u ) is 30" and a good starting point
George1990
But then a light gun with 32" barrels and a heavy gun with 28" barrels will have a similar feel. I find my heavier 28" gun more sluggish than my dad's slightly lighter (through better balance than weight, as it is only a couple of ounces lighter) 30" gun, which is more pointable. So it's best to just pick up any length gun and see what feels right.
