Guest flightline
You have a bigger one than I do. Perhaps that`s my problem. I use 12-15 but shoot naff all most of the time.
Cranfield
The layout depends very much on the situation. Time of year, crops, weather, shooting pressure etc., I normally start with about 15-20, then increase/decrease them and change the layout shape as I think is necessary (if the birds don,t come in, or it goes quiet). I try to avoid the birds seeing exactly the same layout, in the same place all day. It may make no difference at all, but it gives me confidence. Hammergun
I try to lay the decoys out in a similar pattern to which I have observed the pigeons feeding in when there's nobody about. This is usually an oval shaped grouping. I start with 12 full body decoys, then add to it with dead birds. Still considering a pigeon magnet or flapper. Elma Fud
I use anywhere from 12 - 30 deeks. I've never really had much success decoying with horse shoe, coma's or 'L' 'Vs'. The only ones that seem to me to work are Cigar shape and figure of 8. Its a case of trial and error, move them around until the birds start to come in. Tony
I used to use about 20 deks and replace them with shot birds if I am lucky enough to shoot any! :( Since using the rotor, I have found that smaller, individual groups of deks work better. I now tend to have two or three groups of deks sited around the rotor. Each group consisting of three or four birds. Alternatively, I will use a horseshoe or arm of deks if not using the rotor. Like Elma says, trial and error...it's the only way.
