Highlander
Hand rub in any good natural wood oil like walnut oil or something similar. Do this a bit at a time (over time) and let it dry between times. Use the ball/palm of your hand and rub in a circular motion. DO NOT over oil. Use lots of TLC. Imagine you're on the beach oilin' up your bit of totty

Sergeant
I use linseed oil neat. Rub it on with your thumb and leave it a couple of days to soak in before you do it again.
dunganick
when i completely refinished my rimfire i used a red root stain, and lots of linseed oil the best way to apply both is using hands use circular motion, get a good heat into your hand, after about 3 mins of rubbing i wipe excess off, as some wood takes the oil better than others and you could end up with patches if you were to leave it. with hand rubbing oil the trick is, little at a time, lots of heat, lots of times
