humperdingle
Please... I know they're for hairdressers etc, etc...Yawn... But I need a small 4x4! I've been looking at a couple of these motors - Both '03 plates, lowish mileage. Problem is, both have had the engine check light on whilst engine running. First one I looked at was private sale. Walked away from that one as i'd have little or no comeback. Second one is from a dealer, so at least I have rights if owt happens. He's assured me it's going to have a full MOT, and the fault/s will be fixed 100% (Heard that one before, but fair enough) Any ideas? I know dirty or faulty sensors can cause this light to come on, but also could be something much more serious I suppose. I'd really welcome any opinions, especially from mechanics who work on these vehicles. Thanks in advance!
Boromir
Could be dirty fuel but thats one of many
Tank
I'm afraid I can't help with the warning light, they usually just mean "something's wrong", but I've no idea if that "something" is just a dirty filter/sensor or something really important. I can tell you that they are brilliant little off roaders. Coils all round and proper 4x4 gearboxes. You'll love it when you've got it. humperdingle
one of many Yeh I know the best thing to do is shove a diagnostic computer onto it to read the fault code, but that's what the garage are going to do. Being a naturally... cautious...pessimistic... Type, I'm worried that an unscrupulous diddy might disconnect the engine light somehow - If that's possible. Tank
When you start the engine, all of the lights should come on then go out to let you know that they are still connected. Stops the dodgy dealers from taking out the warning bulbs.

Nice one! I'm compiling a checklist of things to look at come the time, so that's another one to add!
Andy75
Have had this on a friends Jimny - was an oxygen sensor (lambda sensor) and was a cheap fix via a cheapo ebay item that cost £25 or so. ECL's can also be cleared by disconnecting the battery for half an hour, if it is a fault that has since been cleared by fixing something else.
