MartynGT4
Hi, Having some issues with a used Browning Citori I bought a few months ago, it's still under warranty so it looks like I'll be taking it back. Basically the top lever is really sticking, in that it needs quite a bit of pressure to get it to move then it opens. The gun is quite tight, which makes me think it's had little use but is it normal for the lever to be this stubborn to move? I've lightly greased the lug that protudes from the action and the recess in the block it locks into but no improvement. Also, for the past three weeks I've noticed that every now and then it fails to reset the trigger for the bottom barrel on firing, three times in 150 shots to be precise. Brownings reset the trigger using inertia so I'm thinking the action is probably full of gunk and needs a bloody good service. Not keen to do this myself and don't think it's right that this should be happening within two months of buying the gun. Please let me know if I'm barking up the wrong tree etc Thanks
Cumbrian
Certainly doesn't sound right and therefore back to the dealer, I'd say, from my experience of two lightly used Browning 325s. But the trigger failure just might be up to the user: unconsciously I sometimes hang on to the trigger (i.e. fail to release it) after the first shot when shooting clays and this of course prevents the mechanism from working, so I can't take the second shot, which is embarrassing. Worth a check.

I know what you mean about hanging onto the trigger, but thats not affecting me as I've been shooting other guns for about 18 months and this issue has only just started to happen with this gun, i.e. it was fine until a month ago. Anyway, spoke to the chaps at Avalon yesterday and they suggested swapping the barrel selector over to fire the bottom barrel first to see if the problem persists but to pop it in to them regardless as it needs looking at. Which was pretty much what I was hoping they'd say so thats what I'll do. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers
Guest stiv24
I bought a new 525 prestige from them last year which had a stiff top lever. They sent it back to Browning who ground more metal off of somewhere and then sent it back to the shop. It needs to go back again as sometimes the lever still jams. Never had the trigger issue though.
arjimlad
The top lever on my 525 is pretty stiff but that is because it is new. I had an issue with the trigger not resetting but I made a more deliberate effort to release the trigger between shots, and the problem has gone away. I have been shooting for 20 years and never had this problem before so maybe the Brownings need a "fuller" release between shots, if you know what I mean. I am using 21g carts for clays with no problem now. I took the stock off to check for grease etc, but the action was not greasy or dirty so I applied some very minimal light oil on joints and put the stock back on again. COACH
Its proving quite common now that these lighter cartridges 21g + 24g can cause problems with the inertia system which will stop the gun changing over to the second barrel. Its more common on the older guns though but does happen on new stiff ones as well.
