I went to my permission on sunday after rugby training, the farmer had just drilled his bean fields and thought the pigeons maybe hitting it, as they must be getting sick of rape after the harsh winter. I arrived at about 2ish and setup on a flightline that the pigeon seemed to be working as they would only be around for a few more hours. First pigeon drifted over and it fell like a stone. What a nice start. A fellow pigeon shooter (Mark) who also had permission to shoot, heard my shot and came over for a chat he said he had setup a few hundred yards up the hedge and wondered if i wanted to join him. I jumped at the chance to gain some first hand experience. We took it in turns to shoot while the other one spotted the pigeons, Mark already had 26 from the morning and the next 2 hours was great fun. I managed a further 7 and i asked him all about pigeon shooting, what pattern he uses, cartridges, ratios and pretty much everything else! Mark picked up 30 and i had 8 ( for 15 cartridges, which i was well chuffed with) so it's always worth going out and giving it a go, you will never know want will happen or who you will meet. i cannot wait to go shooting with him over the summer.
