Crop digestion?

Recommended Posts

This may or may not be a stupid question.

Shot a few pigeons this afternoon, all absolutely full of barley, their crops couldn't hold anymore. How long does it take to digest this crop full of food? If they are this full surely they won't need to eat the next morning? Finally is this the reason they prefer to fly from sitty tree to sitty tree throughout the day as they are full of food?

well its not a stupid question mate i have wondered this before especially when you shoot them and they are full of acorns ! how long do they take to digest ? i shot a pigeon once that had 14 acorns in it !! but i do think that when they are on rape during the winter, this doesnt take long to go through em

If you had to depend on the British weather for your food you would fill up,imagine if it belted down with rain or snowed for a couple of days then you could be smug with a crop full of food.

As for how long it takes to digest....how long is a piece of string?

Perhaps they just use it as a suit of armour against pigeon shooters?
