boc121
As above lads i have a 10 year and she's mad for a ferret just wondering what they'd be like as a pet. Would they have to be declawed, descented or what? Also have other kids 8,6 and 18months any advice welcome especially from ferret folk. Cheers. Reload
Go for it mate, I have a 2 year old boy who loves them. However I always keep 1 eye on him when he is near the cadge. Ferrets can bite and do sometimes if treated without respect. Here is a usefull site with alot of info for you to digest. http://www.wessexferretclub.co.uk/ I have a jill and a hob, he has been castrated and does not smell as a result nor is interested in mating. Vasectomised hobs on the other hand, do keep their scent, will fight other males and like the ladies.) My jill has been spayed so will not come into season and therfore need a jill jab or to mate to bring her out of season. Good luck Just a thought, you would be wise to get 2. They do like company. lowlander
i used to have an albino hob that i managed to get at 9 weeks old from a mate, i handled it every day and it got stupidly tame, i once took it ferreting in the pocket of my seeland jacket and it loved it, he just sat looking out over the top. my 5 year old cousin used to play with him for hours on end and he never bit him so my advise would be to go for it lowlander
Ferretertom
Yep they can be good pets no there not dew clawed but they do need trimming at times neigher decented in uk aslong as their neutered there should be no problems with smell. Also as long as they are handled regularly and have plenty of attention they will be soft as butter. The jills (females) tend to be harder to look after than the hobs (males) if unneutered as they go in season maby twice in summer and can get ill if left in season there should be a rescue centre somewhere near you where the ferrets are allready tame and neutered. Bigbob
They make great pets as there socail animals you might need a pair ,you will have to think about what to do when they come into season as even when the hobs testes drop thats when they start to smell .There claws if not wearing down on a hard surface are easily clipped with nail clippers but unless your in america ive never heard of them being descented
