22-250 or .223

Recommended Posts

Didn't know trees were that tall...:lol:

Seriously, don't think that this NV is the be all & end all.

Depending on weather conditions/moon phases etc that will be your tops.

Good for problem Foxes, but becomes paper target shooting after a while.

actually its got nothing to do with any of that. the only thing that will be a pain is heavy rain and i doubt ill want to go foxing in that any way.

if i can see 300 yards ie. there is no trees in the way or a building etc then i will see it.

then i can shoot it.

223 probably has slightly less than 22-250, but the difference isn't major. Remember the Yanks don't do moderators, and they make a world of difference. E.g. my 308, my Tikka has a short barrel and a mod, and is a darling to shoot. My Ruger has a 26" barrel, which in YankLand gives you less recoil and muzzle flip, and it's a bitch.

so are you telling me that if i mod up a 22-250 then i can get it down to a .223 level? this is very important since i dont want to damage my NV tube.

Quite the opposite Pan, it's got everything to do with it, rain the leased of all. You are obviously going by what you have read, & haven't had experience in the field with NV.

Wouldn't be to much bothered about the recoil side, if the NV got any salt, it shouldn't affect it,

im going by the fact that i use a PVS14 in the field, which is Gen 3 US select alpha tubed night vision. the best money can buy in terms of technology. much better than anything on sale in the UK and Europe.

The recoil concerns come from people in america who know about this kind of thing. recoiling weapon night vision tubes are hand selected with large halos so the distance between the film and MCP, Recoil can cause the MCP to bend and voltage damage the tube. and for the sake of a few yards extra range id rather keep in on the safe side.

the PVS14 is a monocular design and not a weapon sight but uses the same IIT. when your using kit of this value id rather not risk it.

im still not sure what your claiming about range, i can pretty much see as clear as day at night, and my laser increases the viewing range way past anyone can shoot.

If recoil is really bothering you, go for a .223, .22 hornet or a .204 ruger.

Just googled it, & can see that it has an attachment to fit to a rifle, but says nothing of reticule ?

Are you fixing this to this 223/22-250, or just using it to spot, then use normal scope/lamp.

BJ.

using a day scope adapter it is fitted behind any dayscope you wish to use. this converts the normal dayscope into a night vision hunting scope. using a laser you can also extend the range as far as you want

That doesn't means you'll be shooting out passed the 200-300 mark. We use a similar combination, & have done for about 3 yrs now...it never fails to amuse me when range comes in to play.

no i said earlier that i plan to shoot about 200-300 max this will do fine for foxes i think?

seems the .223 offers the best all round capability. maybe this and a PES T12 mod on a Tikka t3 and im good to go
