Birdboy
Hi Im looking at an ASE Northstar moderator or ASE Jet 2 for my Tikka T3 Hunter .243. Have any of your guys got one ? Im currently using a Wildcat mod but want to go smaller. Will the smaller mod affect the shot / balance / etc ? If so for better or worse. Any ideas appreciated. Dunkield
I have an ASE compact on my .223 and it was some of the best money I have spent. As it isn't over barrel I had my barrel chopped and the balance is perfect (and I don't like mods for mods sake)

scotland rifles
Thanks Dunkfield, Could a smaller mod affect anything on the rifle in terms of accuracy, recoil or balance ? Many thanks BB Hi BB I went from a T8 on my sporter barreled .243 steyr and its 100% better, when i used the T8 the whole barrel and mod kept the heat after a couple of quick shots. but now with the Ase jet Z compact 6.5x55 fitted its the dog nuts only the mod holds the heat now as the barrel is open to the cooler air now the T8 has gone. as well as that the rifle feels better balances better and it only move the point of impact down by 2" re-zeroed and its spot on, bob. Thanks BB Not used the ones above but I did have the ASE S5, great lump at the end of the barrel, but sound reduction wise it was good, probably did have the edge on the P8. I went to the P8, and then the P8 COMPACT, works for me and a lot smaller/lighter than the full P8, but same baffle stack. Over barrel mods do heat up and retain heat more than end of barrel units, but length and balance are trade offs, for general field work on centrefires I don't have any issue with over barrel mods and heat, perhaps a bit down the range though!!! Choice gets personal, I have tried a few and taking all into account, sound moderation, balance/weight, price, cleaning, parts/spares, and the vast range of calibre inserts available, the P8 Compact offers a package I can live with!!
