High Seat Deer Shooting

Recommended Posts

Accompanied High Seat shooting (due to insurance) on a lovely small estate near Basingstoke, Hampshire. On offer is fallow, roe and muntjac. The cost is £70 for 3-4hours, morning or afternoon. This includes one kill (cannot gaurantee a kill). Morning and afternoon is £120. (2 Kills). There is the opportunity to purchase the carcuss at dealers rates (about a pound a pound I think).

There are trophy heads around, price can be discussed on the day.

There is an Estate rifle available. You will need insurance and have to take a few shots at a target to ensure gun is set for you to take a clean kill. Several high seats around the estate. Please PM me with any questions or for more details.

  • 5 weeks later...

I just got back from an evening with John (pikey251).

I had an excellent time and managed to get my first Muntjac. We got up the high seat around 6.30pm ish i think, and there was lovely roe buck standing in the field right by it! After a short while, a muntjac trotted across the field to our front but was too far away and on the brow of the hill. About 15 mins later, a Roe doe and young buck appeared to our left and spent a good long time slowly feeding and making their way across right in front of us. After watching the two Roe for about 40 mins, we spotted a Munty by a pheasant feeder. It was quickly joined by another, but they were too far away. I lost sight of them and thought they had disappeared ,but John's eagle eyes noticed that they had moved down the wood toward us, and had spotted them in a bit of cover. Taking aim on the little deer was easy enough but keeping the rifle steady was proving a challenge as this was my first time and nerves were getting the better of me. As I pulled the trigger, I knew I had hit it a bit to the left but it went down all the same. After waiting a while, we approached the deer and we could see its head was still up, so John expertly finished it with a well place neck shot. The other Muntjac had not gone too far away and was barking loudly in the wood behind us, not too impressed with me shooting his girlfriend!

In total, we saw around 3 Muntjac, 20 or so Fallow, and I lost count of the Roe. Never seen so many deer, but good to see someone finally managing them.

I had a brilliant time in a beautiful part of the country. Thanks to John and his dad and hopefully see you in August for the Fallow!
