killer_pigeon
Went clay shooting for first time in years yesterday and the bloke setting off the clays said my gun didnt fit me very well as i couldnt get my cheek on the butt as it was bit low for me, so i was raising the butt too high to compensate and it wasnt sitting shoulder groove properly. he suggested changing the stock drop and cast spacers to get the breech higher up so i can see better I have looked in my gun box and found a drop and cast spacer for my Beretta Al391 S\A 12g (synthetic) Been surfing the intraweb today but I cant really understand what the DX and SX mean or if it will help at all or would i need a butt extension instead. changing them looks straightforward just need to borrow torque wrench. I just want the barrel line of sight higher so i can see down it better as i am quite tall and have long neck and ape type arms. Any advice would be appreciated if this would help or would it not malke a difference to my problem. I already fitted an extended gel pack. Thanks

Thanks Know the problem - it was 2 yaers before I found out . Get yourself to a good gunsmith to do the fit - I ended up with 10mm extra cast and drop. VicW
KP, here is what you need to know:- Remove the recoil pad.Inside the stock you will see a 13mm stiffnut and locking washer, remove them.Over the recoil spring tube there is a metal plate with a hole in it.It is this plate that determines the cast and drop of the stock. Remove the stock. Between the stock and the receiver there is a plastic shim. This shim fills the gap between them to ensure there is no undue strain put on the stock when it is tightened down. Both the plate and the shim are marked with SX (left cast) and DX (right cast) and numbers, usually 50,55,60 and 65. the higher the number the bigger the drop. The shim and the plate must match, the letters and numbers must face you and be at the top when looking from the recoil pad. Choose what cast and drop you want.Fit the shim over the end of the forward end of the stock and place it on the receiver ensuring it is fully engaged.Using a rod or screwdriver as a guide slide the plate over the threaded end of the recoil spring tube followed by the lockwasher and nut.Tighten but not over tight, you are not putting wheel nuts on your car! There is a torque figure but I don't know what it is. Refit recoil pad. Vic.

VicW
thanks for replies above, i took off the butt plate and there is a 45DX metal plate under the bolt in the butt, do i need to remove this completely and replace with teh 60DX spare i have or do they both sit next to each other? thanks Remove the 45 completely and replace it with the plate you want to use. The same applies to the spacer between the stock and the receiver. Vic.
