Stokoe
My shooting partner and I have been trying to get permission to shoot on various plots of land recently but aren't having much luck. We both live in Newcastle and are willing to travel a reasonable distance for a good plot. My only thought is that due to our age (22 and 24) the land owners aren't too keen on letting us shoot there. We are both certificate holders, members of BASC and extremely sensible and trustworthy guys. We approach the owners extremely politely, well dressed and not impatient when asking for permission. Does anybody know of any land owners or permissions available in the North-East that would be willing to accept us in addition to their current "keepers"? Thanks

I hope your not accusing us Northerners of all being raiders! There are some sensible folk up here, we are the minority though...
markyboy
ive had the same problems mate, when it comes to lamping and pigeon shooting, ive managed to get the odd bit of shooting by doing what you have done. but the bulk of my shooting has come through a friend of a friend or sumbody my dad knows. in this day and age its all about who you know, unless you have got a big wad of cash to pay for shooting rights.keep at it though sombody will let you on,wait till nearer harvest time for flattend wheat of barley. and have a look for pigeon activity and go chap the farmers door and say any chance we can have a shot at the pigeons eating your crop,he will jump at the chance. Stokoe
We're not looking for an estate to shoot in... Just a small patch of arable with a decent flightpath or population of woodies would be ideal! I didn't think it would be such a problem but it seems almost all land around here has been paid for years in advance.... It's such a shame as we can't enjoy our sport to the full until we find somewhere suitable. Thanks for all the help
soreshoulder
ive found its more of a help for me i dont know why but older farm owners tend to have a soft spot for young'uns. Probably takes them back 'ahh those were the days' etc

Offering help does go a long way, there is usually a few odd jobs to be done, that is if you want the work as well as the shooting.
