McF
For a number of weeks now I've been waiting for the nod off a very good friend of mine to say "go shoot the rabbits mate". So imagine my surprise on Friday morning, when he rang me to give me the green light. Friday evening was spent meeting the landowner, showing me the bounderies and having a recce. This morning up at the crack of dawn, even though I had had one to many shouting on the boys in South Africa. First shot was a 60 yarder taken leaning against a fence post then walked slowly down into the medow, rabbits everywhere sat out in the early sunshine. I set the home made tripod and settled the crossair on a bunny in the distance, squeezed the trigger, down it went, one sitting slightly closer didnt flinch at the sound of the gun or the thwack of the HMR striking its mate in the head. So slight adjustment with the rifle, a squeeze of the HMR's trigger brought my third one down, 3 in 3 shots not bad I'd only been there 30 minuets. Picture shows the 2nd & 3rd rabbits shot, when I strode the distance out the 1st was 140 strides. After sitting in the meadow for a while waiting to see if the rabbits I disturbed with 2nd shot, would come back out to play, I moved to another field were I dropped my 4th & 5th of the mornig. When I went to pick them up I found this on one? Does anyone know what it is? In all my years of shooting I nether seen this on a rabbit before, just to the left of the scabs was a large bulge, what i can only describe as tumour looking. After doing a round trip of the land then having a cuppa I returned to the meadow and bagged another. Not bad 6 shots 6 rabbits for my first time on the land, and plenty more to go at. So next Friday night its my turn to host the world cup party, guess whats going on the barbie, yes Bunny burgers.

webber
So its not a big party then McF? They look prety thin to me. Just make sure your guests have eaten them before diclosing the origin of the meat. Then have the chuck bucket handy, or be prepared to clean out the pond again. webber
mick54dog
hi there, re the scabs and swellings, if the rabbit in question was a milky doe(it looks to be, but not 100% sure from pics.) the swellings etc. could be Mastitis .....a bacterial infection, which can affect all mammals. ive seen it in cattle and dogs. hope this helps, cheers mick
