Redgum
Just had a moderator put on my remington 700 sps 243 and have noticed the barrel is very slightly thicker toward the end as the mod is really tight when putting on. When it gets just about to its final position is has the correct tolerance and spins freely (apparently needs barrel expansion tolerance for when hot). The gun hasnt shot many rounds and is a lovely acurate rifle, even as its being run in (40rnds so far) but I'm just surprise the barrel isnt uniformed or tapered toward the front. I know on my shotguns that the multi choke barrels flare slightly at the end for the threading, is this normal on a remington to allow for threading or just bad manufacturing and will it effect the gun in anyway as it gets warm. Dekers
My 700 SPS barrel isn't even round. Neil Mckillop cut and threaded mine and noticed this during the process. Seems their external barrels are hardly brilliant, fortunately the inside of their barrels does seem ok!!
Graham M
Funnily enough I have the SPS and when I had it threaded it wouldn’t group with the moderator fitted (Wildcat). I tried everything, until one day I removed the bush and shot without it. The groups were quite amazing after that. The new Remingtons are no-where near as well made as the old ones, but after chopping the 26” barrel down to 20” it shoots incredibly well. Wonder if the barrel is out of round G.M. Redgum
excellent, for a minute I thought it was a problem, I'm quessing that the external machining isnt quite as important as the inner.
