I work for the ambulance service as a Paramedic. Im on a car team, so spend a lot of time on standby, in the middle of nowhere sometimes. Sat in the car reading, watching TV (there is a little tiny TV built into the satnav. ) Procrastinating....That is a word I dont use very often. In between Jobs.

It can be mind numbingly boring sometimes. Yet,somedays I am so busy I dont have time to refuel!

I have started being sent to a farming village near where I work, a lot recently, to standby and Its so booooring...

But in just 6 weeks I have got 3 new shooting permissions. Just by being nice and friendly.

I know that the big luminous car and florry jacket makes me look respectable(cough. quiet at the back.) But all I have done is drive up to the farmhouse, knock on the door and ask whoever answers if they have anyone shooting on their land for them.

They either say Yes or No. Noone has been rude, unpleasant, unfriendly even.

The three that said yes were only too happy to chat, sign permission slips and one even invited me in for a brew. I only asked four and the fourth was still a lovely bloke, but his land was owned by a big estate and its all syndicated shooting.

(I kept the radio on me at all times, so dont panic I wasnt skiving on works time!)

I guess the moral of the story is, Its nice to be nice. Just go knock on the door and ask. They wont bite!
