Pumping Water to a Crop

Hi

I have a crop of trees/shrubs (around 4000) that desperately need water. Does anyone know if a Honda petrol driven pump thats about 5hp with a 3inch bore is going to be man enough to transfer the water up from a depth of about 5 feet and then run it along about 200 meters. Also, can you adapt it down to about 1 inch pipe as the 3inch one is really expensive.

Thanks Chris

I have a similar pump (2" see my dyke thread)

a pump like yous should easly do 800 ltr/min and a head of 25m+ and 10m suction

The problem with reducing it down to 1" is the back pressure that would be created in the pump that might pop seals etc.

2" might be ok, I have just bought some of fleebay 50m of 2" for about £45 delivered.

Only other option would be to put what is called a spill back from the out-let of the pump onto the inlet of the pump.

A few extra valves and basicaly you send most of the flow back to the inlet and the rest down your 1" line, also grealty reduces chances of over pressure.

Or you could just spill back into where you are pumping out of.

Or stage the reduction, i.e 50m of 3", 50m of 2" then 100m 1"
