Maidment78
First sorry to hear about your loss, 6 is very young. All I would say is do not rush into anything. Good luck.
Highlander
Get another dog a.s.a.p. you know it makes sense. For the type of shooting you do either breed will do well so make a choice. BTW, sorry to hear about your loss, I know it hurts.
oakland rob
Personally i would leave it a while before you get another dog but to honest only you can make that decision, it really depends on how you feel, i believe if you get another dog straight away you will be forever comparing it with your old one which is not a good thing, every dog is different, i lost one my bunch last year, he was 7, i didnt replace him straight away but 8 months later i got one of his sons back which in hindsight was good timing, i dont know how many dogs you have, if he was your only dog then maybe you should get one straight away, maybe go for a different breed ? i honestly dont know, what you should do though is give yourself time and dont rush in to anything. Good Luck.
ziplex
I'd say leave it a while too but everyone's different. I rushed out and bought a GSP shortly after i'd lost two very much loved Springers who died within 6 weeks of one another. With hindsight I should of left it a while and give it some thought. If you were that close to your mutt you may end up feeling resentful if you rush in
Tarlair
Sorry for your loss, it leaves a big hole. As said already, only you can decide but I would if it was my only dog I would get another right away. You never replace a dog, they are all unique, you just get your next best friend. As to breeds, don't discount a labrador. They will also fit your type of shooting and they are the best dogs in the world. (IMHO).
Lloyd90
From the type of shooting you have said you do a lab would be good for the ducks and pigeon, although a spaniel would be good for rough shooting, which types do you do most ? If you really want a dog that wont be amazing at all 3 but decent at em all a springer is what id go for
