Power cables

Recommended Posts

Hi, I recently started shooting clays with an intention of going pigeon shooting when I felt able to shoot better.

With this in mind I have now started looking at local farms and have noticed quite a few have pylons passing over the fields, some are quite low and others the usual high type.

Now, is it possable for a shooter to cause damage to the cables when shooting nearby ? or would lead be ok and steel a problem ?

Heres hoping someone can offer some guidance, then I can start door knocking ......

Thanks

Although the chances of a shotgun damaging powerlines is slim (they're pretty thick)-you should avoid shooting at them at all costs cos they're not yours. Also, many of them have ceramic insulators on the ends where they meet the pylons and these will break.

Try and set up nearby though because Pigeons use them as maps and follow them.

Take great care, firstly, power cable can and will get damaged by shooters and the costs can be very high. Remember there are many more smaller local power supply cables around and they, together with their junction boxes do not react well to a shotgun blast.

Secondly, please take extra care if using lofting poles to put of deeks in trees, people are killed doing this and touching a power line they have not seen -not the great big ones on pylons but the smaller ones.
