That is some shooting at 600 yards and would get you in the England team today, are you talking the FN, if not which SLR out of interest, and what sights/scope/ammo?

it is very true i had a night sight on it for the life of me cant remember the name , 7.62 nato ammo the slr in my opinion was great to shoot it suited me ,i was 1 of 3 people who had my marksman rifles out of about 1200 of which when i left i took and have them 20 odd years l8r http://www.rifleman.org.uk/FN_Self_Loading_Rifle_L1A1.htm the 22 conversion was good fun we use to zero the weapon in doors with this (long wind free tunnel 25yards ) good old days ,thing is have trouble hitting pigeons with 12 g now

the normal sight was a suit sight standard for infantry men other units had iron sights

Deker am surprised you didn't mention your 196 yard rabbit with your 22LR :good: I've seen where it was done so I'll mention it for you

I appreciate, but pleased though I was it was a one off, baby rabbit, .22lr Magtech 40g HP Subs, and just a day or two after I had shot with the same setup at 200 yards at Bisley, so I knew exactly what the gun/ammo was doing, and the conditions were as good as they could get.

258 yards bunny with the the 17g HMR, witnessed and range finder checked too!

These are not everyday shots and there is always someone out there who has done better......I was well pleased with my HMR shot until I mentioned it to a certain RFD and his best was 285 yards

Academic answers and not really practical.

ATB!!

That is still some going with the FN, but it also goes to show the RG 7.62 ammo was pretty good, I still have a lot vintage 1985, excellent!

I have used my .22 on the 200yds at Bisley a couple of times. Apart from the fact that you have to aim ridiculously high it is possible to group them on the target, not a good group but a group none the less.

I've shot mine on Altcar at 200 a couple of times. Lot of holdover, keeping the top of the thicker part of the bottom duplex post level with the top of the target, but managed to keep them in the black and form some sort of a group.

As for game, nothing over 70 yards for me; too much risk of wounding.
