kipper
I have been after a problem fox on some of our permission for a while. I have come accross him a few times over the past few weeks. the last time was 2 weeks ago when it was sat watching my dad's chickens through a 5 bar gate I have just been away for a week with the family Near boston lincolnshire, 1000's of pigeons every where there is every year we go there.( no permission out that wat but it torments the hell out of me every year ) I knew our local permission had just been cut so to say I had an itchy triger finger is an under statement . When we got back home I rang my dad, he was just packing up from a few hours of pigeon shooting. he said the pigeons are still coming in feeding on the wheat stubble he then said I have seen the fox hanging around in the bottom of the field where wehave had a cadge trap set. it has been there about 4 weeks. he will take the free bait from outside the trap but will not take the bait inside . after a quick I had a plan. so I set off to the farm for a couple of hours armed with my shotgun and the rimfire oh and not to forget my hunting dog . I arrived and within minuites i had shot my first pigeon retreived by the dog, closely followed by another I stood on top of some pallets and scoured the land for charly. No where to be seen. so after checking wind direction i set off to find him. I got on the right side of the wind and settled down under a pilon in long grass and started calling him on the wam fox caller i continued calling for about 15 min with shotgun loaded with AAA' 36g. and rim fire ready for the kill charly appeared from no where. looking straight at me about 20 yrds away i gave him another squeek and he came running like a train too close for the rim I picked up the shot gun and shot him dead, he droppe no more that 2yards from where we was laid in the grass. a bit to close for my liking. kipper
In this pic. where the "Hunting dog" is sat is where we was both laid calling the fox. you can see the fox laid in the grass behind her. this is wehere the fox lay after the shot. that is TOOOOOO close for comfort Hope I dont set a craze off for the Boxer hunter dog. she was a little excited when I first started calling but soon settled down after a good telling off. she has just started retreiving shot pigeons but likes to half pluck them before giving them to mee You know you would love one All the best kipper Edited August 9, 2010 by kipper

RED BEARD
it don't matter what sort of dog you use,as long as it brings back what you shoot.
Frenchieboy
Cracking write up and photos. That looks like quite a big fox you got there mate. Mind you. with a dog like that I doubt that Charlie would have given you any real problems. Well done!
