hi guys, got a few questions but first some background. im 24 and ex forces, i have been using air rifles for a while now both for plinking and rabbits.

i am a member of a club, however the club is 140 miles away but i do get to go at least once a month.

i also have 2 decent permissions for shooting rabbit (i keep large snakes and shoot for food)

i have been thinking about applying for my fac for the past year or so and need a little advice.

was considering going for a .17 hmr for rabbit hunting as the bunnies are getting a little harder to creep up on in the openess of one of my permissions.

was also considering asking for a .22 lr for the same reason and also plinking at the club.

my question is do you think i have shown sufficient reason (in the eyes of the police) to get both rifles on the ticket?

also how many rounds would i get away with? seeing as its my first application? (.17 buy 200 keep 400?)

slightly more for .22?

i probably wont get both rifles straight away and am leaning towards the .17 but i would like to keep the allowance incase a good .22 comes up.

I can't see you having a problem as long as your permission land is suitable and you have no criminal record.

go for it :good:

No problems, your reasons are .22lr for vermin control and the hmr for longer range vermin control. You may as well put FAC air on too, saves paying for a variation in the future.

was also thinking about this but didn't know if id sound "greedy" am i right in thinking i can have the allowance on there but not necessarily use it? or even swap it for another rifle at a later date? (providing i can justify the change)

Its not 'greedy', you're applying for the tools for the job. If they are justified then the police will have no problem granting them.

I applied for hmr and .22lr for vermin control, FAC air for use around livestock and shooting into the air, and .204 centrefire for fox, all were granted.

Not sure how long you can have something on ticket without buying though, and yes you can swap, on a 1 for 1 variation if you need to.

Go 500 to buy 600 to keep for either cal. Reason is you generally buy what is termed a brick ie 500 rounds, 100 spare means you don't run dry. I agree go for FAC air also it is usefull for shooting upwards and using amoung stock as mentioned. Initially don't buy 500 just a selection of different brands in 50 boxes and find what shoots best in your gun, when you do get 500 from same batch
