Katash
I'll soon be buying my first .22 rimfire and have had limited experience with scoped rifles in the past but I have a few questions maybe somebody could help with. Rifle will be a marlin 795 semi-auto, will be used mainly on a 25m indoor (dark) range but hopefully on rabbits after 6 months or so. 1) Anyone recommend a good scope for a .22 rimfire, preferably with an illuminated recticule as the range I shoot on is quite dark - Not too expensive but not basic, I'd like a variable power scope that is sutable for 25m range work and rabbit work at longer distances. 2) Is there a mount system available that permits easy removal of the scope so I can switch between iron sights and scope (weaver?) - If this is possible does the scope retain its zero well after re-installed? 3) Are air rifle scopes acceptable for use on a .22LR? I currently have a dead air rifle with a fixed power Silva scope on, was thinking of installing it temporarly for some fun until I buy a sutable scope? Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance 1.If your looking for budget then go for a hawke 3-9 x 50 or so - there is usually one for sale on here or evilbay... If you want budget that'll last then go for the same mag etc in Leupold (about £250 new) and decent scopes. A 3-9 x 50 will be plenty enough magnification (if your eyes are ok) for the range and bunnys out to the max effective range of the .22 in human hands. 2.You can get quick detatch scope rings which allow for the quick removal and refittting of scopes (warne do a decent set at reasonable money £30-50 dependant) again you may find some about on here. If you mark a line on the receiver rail where the rear ring/mount ends up (once you have mounted the scope) you can use the line as a reference when refitting. You can alternatively have the rail drilled and have fixed bases mounted. However, with the accuracy of the rifle you are suggesting buying being OK (for field work) but far from banchrest accurate i doubt you'll need to worry about ensuring the scope is exactly where it was when you removed it so go for the warnes - in my opinion. 3.An air rifle scope will be fine on a .22 (the recoil is probably less than most springers anyway) but you will probably want to upgrade pretty soon. Beardo
a .22lr will normally only have dovetail mounts not weavers
