Down South
OK, the 3-9 x40 Bushnell trophy scope I'm using on my scope is good but not powerfull enough. I don't want to break the bank but what power and make of scopes are people finding good out there? I like simle scopes, nothing extra to think about, just take the shot! Down South
Budget will be an average price over the recommendations, I might even get an import from US. I don't want to load up a light rifle with too much gear. Pushing high magnification means stability problems and need a bipod. I prefer to use a 2 stick rest as you can use it as a walking/beating stick.
Axe
DS, I have been thinking the same as I will have a similar problem soon. Well hopefully. Anyway, I have had a look at some of the Deben scopes, they arent too bad at all. I don't want anythign to powerful so i'll probably go for a 12 mag. Down South
I know its a mine field, to make things worse, I intend getting a 22 lr barrel for my quad so the scope will have to come down to 6x. I am thinking on the lines of a 6 - 18. Also it will need to have zero reset accurately with barrel changes. I don't like to shoot prone, can you get a tall bipod? Axe
DS Bi-pods come in all sizes, The Burris Scope for the Quad is made especially so you can set your own zero's and dial them in when changing but the scope is a fair cost. I would simply go with a adjustable turrets, then all you need to know is how many clicks up or down you need to go to change over barrels. This is probably easier to do with a 1/4 MOA than a 1/8 MOA but the Nikko Sterling Nighteaters look promising. I still havent got a price on them yet though. Down South
Thanks Axe, the Burris Quad looks good but as you say pricey and its only 3-9 mag. All I want to do is shoot consistently. I'm not interested in flash or names. I just want a scope thats up to the job.
Axe
Heres a couple I have looked at DS. And as Fister mentions, a simple mark on the adjustment turret is what i was intending to do. Hawke Varmin II Nikko Nighteater Nikko Diamond Series
Down South
Thanks Axe, the Varmint2 looks good, ( anybody know better), Nighteater designed for head shooting kangaroos at 200-300 yards, big animal, small head. I'd like to see it done at night.

dunganick
i looked at a nikko night eater whilst on holiday, having read the reviews and basically them saying it was good. i was pretty impressed, although the magnification ring was a real sod to move, it was otherwise good. and i believe the scope has been very succesful, encompasing the same market at scopes such as the tasco varmint, but with their success i am told quality has dropped, and greying at high magnification can be a hit or miss affair (same now with the AGS swat, also another popular choice) fister, see this bunch for prices http://opticswarehouse.com/acatalog/Nikko_...ing_Scopes.html These "perks" you mention is exactly why i dont trust reviews, which makes you wounder why you bother reading them but i still do. dunganick
they are getting a little difficult to get hold of. but good scopes, if not a little pricey if you dont import. its a real shame meopta dont offer a high magnification scope for reasonable money.
