Redgum
Hi, anyone got sierra 100grain soft point boat tails in 243 serial no 1560. Need a few to tide me over as I can't get them anywhere at the moment and Kranks are quoting a couple of months before they get any. My best bet will be when I'm at the midland game fair in a few weeks time. Don't want to change heads as these shoot really well out of my gun with my homeloading. kent
Pro-hunter are the same head with flat base, should shoot as good or better than gameking up to 400yds - but presures will be different so yes you will need to work the load back up. Flat base bullets normally outshoot boat tail at stalking ranges, try them you might well prefer them my sako 75 will and has put them into a 3 shot screamer
Redgum
cheers for that info kent, I always thought that the boat tails were more accurate especially with a bit of wind. Trouble is that you have to buy them in 100's and you know what its like when you have something that works, I will see if I can get 50 of the flat based at the Midland. Great thing about reloading( and I'm only a beginer) that you will never stop learning. I noticed a lack of reloading supplies at the CLA, reloaders international havent been attending for a few years, hope its differant at the Midland. Only better at more exteame ranges beyond what deer are taken in UK
Mr_Logic
Boat tail is higher BC, which is better in the wind. If your rifle shoots both equally accurately, then BT every time.
Redgum
Only better at more exteame ranges beyond what deer are taken in UK I have located some 1540's which are the sierra pro hunter 100grain in 243, so the prohunter is more accurate at deer ranges and the gameking boat tail better for longer distants. I'm guessing its something to do with drag but at what range does one take over advantage on the other.

Its very much a generalisation but flat bases are generally better as good or better up to 300 possibly even 400 yds. I don't think you will see a benchrest shooter using anything other up to 200yds in a 6mm
al4x
Thaks for the link but was it really wise to tell everyone in the world that this guy is doing this rather than use a PM. I'd guess that the order went through but it won't turn up. Both seller and recipient must be breaking a fair few laws Edited September 6, 2010 by al4x
