killer_pigeon
anybody know if its straightforward enough to istall a swivel stud on shotgun butt ? The instructions say us a 5/32" drill bit then countersink with a 7/32" .....................stupid imperial rubbish i looked up in the internet and it says 5.56mm & 3.97mm can i just use 5.5mm drill and 4mm drill bit or is this a case of paying too much for a gunsmith to use his specialist drill set of ridiculous obsolete sizes ? cheers
billytheghillie
why not try on a scrap piece of wood first
killer_pigeon
why not try on a scrap piece of wood first not sure if a scrap piece of wood would mimick a piece of walnut for density and strength etc woul dit be the same ? i dont mind the drilling just need to know if i need exact imperial sizes or can i get away with metric near equivalents
foxnet22
why not try on a scrap piece of wood first agree with this i used a 5mm bit on my hw100 a smaller bit could cause it to crack so try on a bit scrap wood.
HW682
As you said, the perfect size would vary with the individual stock density anyway. The sizes given will be a general guide based on the nearest imperial size. A very close metric should be fine. Also bear in mind that most drills will make slightly oversize holes so if in doubt start slightly undersize. It is easier to open up a bit than close up a bit
apache
Axminster have any size drill bits you could require, even if you want imperial. They go up in 1mm increments - beware cheap ones that can be a couple of mm out. http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-packs...bits-prod20559/ http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-indiv...bits-prod22813/
