Axeman
Hello, I'm looking for land where I can take small game with a .22 air rifle in the Chichester area of West Sussex. Or just West Sussex. I've taken a hiatus from bagging bunnies and woodies but I'm looking forward to getting stuck back in. But there's a snag. Taking small game is something my uncles taught me. I would be invited along; but never took part in any of the organizing such as getting permission from a landowner and the best way of going about it. Any infomation with regards to available land and the proper way of going about gaining permission would be much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to reading your replies. Kind regards, Lawrence

Axeman
Many thanks, dazza. That's certainly put things into perspective. Much obliged. foxnett22, Thank you for you warm welcome. I'm afraid I can't comment on any Perigrins nesting in the eaves of the Cathedral as I don't live in Chichester. This request was actually made on behalf of my parents (father) who live in Chichester. I live in London but have shot on private land in Kent and Surrey in the past. But after my - work related - break, I'm all set to return to my old stomping grounds and slot some bunnies an' woodies. Even if I am a soft southern Londoner. The gun shop you're referring to is called Chichester Armouries, but from what I remember they concentrate more on shooting accessories (decoys, clothing etc) rather than exclusively on firearms. Again, many thanks for taking the time to reply. I look forward to contributing further to this corner of the net in future. After I've returned with a full bag, naturally. throbbingfinger
Foxnet, the gun shop is called Chichester Armoury http://www.chiarm.co.uk/. Its a good shop, sells everything in there with a good selection of guns, staff are friendly and its sort of in the town centre on West Street. Worth a look if your passing. As far as im aware the Peregrines are still nesting in the Cathedral. Mark

The one most people will tell you, is to dress smart have your insurance on you,,have some cards made up, shootingcards.co.uk do some really nice cheap ones £50 for a tenner I think?. and go and knock on farmers doors, introduce yourself and say you are looking to secure pigeon/rabbit shooting, and is there any chance you may be able to help them out with any probblems they may have.if not at the time leave them with a card, you never know, they may well get let down, and give you a call. The second is to post on here, under shooting wanted and ask if there is anyone willing to take you along on thier permissions (offer to pay towards fuel if it's driven lamping), there some really nice chaps on here and you may get an offer. Thirdly, draw up a letter,( I have master copies of the ones I use if you need one I can pm it) introduce yourself, say that you are looking to secure shooting rights for pigeion/rabbits, always enclose a SAE for their convenience. enclose all your contact details, state you are insured and get them out to as many farms/landowners you can. google farms and you'll get a whole list of local farmers. good luck mate, and keep us posted!
