angrymallard
im not sure what the best way is to deal with this problem but i know a dog trainer who would use super glue to seal up an open wound though i would only recommended this quick fix if the cut is not that deep or large
al4x
if its not too deep and not bleeding much then clean it up and keep it clean. If its deep then you probably need a vet before the bill gets bigger with it being infected etc

J@mes
What happens if you superglue some dirt in the wound?
angrymallard
What happens if you superglue some dirt in the wound? I thought it would have been obvious to clean up the cut first to make sure any dirt is removed the point of the super glue is to prevent any dirt entering the cut when it is dried thereby preventing infection. al4x
It goes septic and you can't get it out till you burst it at a guess, then antibiotics. Not a good move at a first attempt, we almost need to see a picture to see if its a proper cut or not. Most injuries actually will heal themselves given time and minimal help but not all and some that could do with stitching won't heal nearly as well if they aren't stitched. UKPoacher
Apart from the dangers of locking infection in the wound there is the problem with it all going bad and the dog suffering more and leading to a large vet's bill and the possibility of you being prosecuted. We mortals aren't allowed to do more than basic first aid on animals to relieve suffering. If you are unemployed look up your nearest PDSA. They can deal free of charge. I'd leave it to heal for a few days and keep an eye on it - but as said, if it gets no better then your pooch needs a vet, money or no money. steve0146
My lurcher is always splitting his pads. Last year he sliced one really bad on the ice. The vets wont stitch it. The best bet is to buy some Hibiscrub. Its used in hospitals for cleaning wounds up. You can buy a bottle easily over the internet. It gets dilluted so last for ages. Just keep cleaning it each it day. We keep the wound open not bandaged so it dries out. Just keep up the cleaning of it.

WGD
Good man, bill seems ok too seeing as she needed a GA. Give it time, a cut pad that deep will need a month - 6 weeks.

garyb
Good job on taking the dog to the vets. Times may be hard, but I'd give up the Sky tv, beer, fags whatever it took to make sure my spaniels were in good health should I ever find myself in similar. They are your best friends, and you owe it to them.
