mpk
Well we got up at 4:15 am and made are way to the marsh, Sat around for a while and we both missed a few chances at mallard and teal . Not through in-abillity but we were just looking in the wrong place at the wrong time . The sun then broke and after a long chat about random things we heard the distant call of the canada's , After much calling we saw the birds lift of the marsh behind us at least 200yds out. Mudpatten then got up from his seat and poked his head round the corner to see them flying towards us.These were called in with the buck gardener short reed goose call (correct me if im wrong) which has proven to me yet again that calling is an extremly important part of fowling. We both then ducked down and waited for the pass , Unfortunatley they were out of range for me but my adrenaline was pumping at the thought. Mudpatten lifted his gun , pulled the trigger BANG down drops the first, he then starts to call again to bring the birds back in . Yet again out of range for me but as they passed BANG ! second one down. And after two good retrives by a happy yet very muddy chesapeake we had these in the bag. ABSOLUTLEY MAGIC! . Time for a bath and some bacon and eggs. (excuse the quality of the photo's im still getting used to my phone ) Edited September 20, 2010 by mpk

mudpatten
Have`nt seen the white one for a while. Apparently not on our marsh at present. I suspect he`s a bit farther along the coast at the moment. If I say so myself the old Buck Gardner short reed call worked a treat. I`m thinking of getting half a dozen of those lightweight sillosock canada decoys. Considering we had no deeks and were very exposed I was well pleased with calling them round for two goes at `em. With some deeks and something approaching a hide we could have got well stuck into them. MPK had a mallard the other day that I called round and which was duly shot whilst trying to pitch in in front of us, again without decoys. Like the man says, "Calling, (if you can do it)can be an important part of wildfowling." Calling classes are available. PM me!
