Rules about loan of shotguns

Any advice please.

A friend would like to borrow my Extrema to go shooting i nScotland for a week on the geese.

I believe you can only loan a shotgun for 72 hours. A longer loan would need the guns details on both his as well as my shotgun cert.

Is this correct or can I lend it to him for the week?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

dont know what yr feo is like , mine is sound . there is no reason that your mate cant have yr gun written on the left hand page of his licence.

my beretta is on mine and my mates . no probs .

i cant find anything on basc reguarding the ownership of a gun to go wildfowling .

Ive heard this before as well but dont think they police it, a mate reckons

its to stop injuries caused to birds by people using guns they dont normally

use and arent accurate with I/E pricked birds and runners.

 Dont know I suppose they could ask you to leave, never been

stopped myself and have used other peoples guns.

would it not be a certificate losing mistake??

i have very rarely bumped into anyone when shooting the foreshore up there and have never been asked about certificate or gun or anything..

just wouldnt want to risk losing my license

i would just sign the gun over to him then when he gets back have him sign it back over to you (if you can trust him not to sell it on in the meantime haha)...

then the gun is on his license and he owns it just for the trip!?

There is a borrowed status that can be used for more than 72 hours. You have to send of notification to the firearms department, like in a sale; just make sure that whoever you are lending to has enough 'official room' in there cabinet otherwise it may throw up an error.

I couldn't say about the rules on wether you have to own the gun, ask the host maybe?

Many thanks all for the advice.

I'll have a word with my FEO and see what he's able to give me.

Bit worrying about possibly having to own any gun you use on the forshore in Scotland. I'll see if he's got any advice on that too.

Thanks again

I wouldnt thought your FEO will know about having to own the gun being on the foreshore.

he will just know about the lending laws for general shooting!
