Kes
Any advice please. A friend would like to borrow my Extrema to go shooting i nScotland for a week on the geese. I believe you can only loan a shotgun for 72 hours. A longer loan would need the guns details on both his as well as my shotgun cert. Is this correct or can I lend it to him for the week? Many thanks in advance for any advice.

fluke2
i couldnt either but i was told it by someone when i was up there and i posted up on here a while ago and was told that you have to own the gun you use if shooting on the foreshore in scotland Ive heard this before as well but dont think they police it, a mate reckons its to stop injuries caused to birds by people using guns they dont normally use and arent accurate with I/E pricked birds and runners. silpig5
if its on yr mates ticket theres nowt they can say , unless he signed contract saying he had owned gun for x months and had regular practice .
TJ91
Dont know I suppose they could ask you to leave, never beenstopped myself and have used other peoples guns. would it not be a certificate losing mistake?? i have very rarely bumped into anyone when shooting the foreshore up there and have never been asked about certificate or gun or anything.. just wouldnt want to risk losing my license i would just sign the gun over to him then when he gets back have him sign it back over to you (if you can trust him not to sell it on in the meantime haha)... then the gun is on his license and he owns it just for the trip!? edr
There is a borrowed status that can be used for more than 72 hours. You have to send of notification to the firearms department, like in a sale; just make sure that whoever you are lending to has enough 'official room' in there cabinet otherwise it may throw up an error. I couldn't say about the rules on wether you have to own the gun, ask the host maybe? ATB EDR Edited October 3, 2010 by edr

Kes
Many thanks all for the advice. I'll have a word with my FEO and see what he's able to give me. Bit worrying about possibly having to own any gun you use on the forshore in Scotland. I'll see if he's got any advice on that too. Thanks again Kes
