  1. Common land in the uk is still owned by someone i/e lord of the manor/english heritage/royalty/etc etc who may allow common rights such as grazing animals/ramblers/camping etc and is mainly controlled/looked after by local councils, the difficulty you have is that its common land for use by anyone for the reasons stated by the owner, trying to get permission for anything that is different to what is stated is almost impossible as too many people have access to the land,if its out in the wilds and too far for anyone to bother with it you could try the local council office but I wouldnt hold my breath.
  2. The dog shows etc are a good place to drum up business and a chance to card a few car widscreens etc, once you attend one show you can pick up leaflets for others and even advertise in the show programs.

  10. Its true allright because I signed the application as a countersignature for her and his wife had been shooting for years but never bothered with a licence until he lost his.The reason he was done for GBH is because two young lads thought it funny to pour a pint of lager down the back of his jeans and after thumping one and removing several teeth he was prosecuted first offence GBH,but his wife had caused no problems she wasnt there so why refuse her,at the interview she was told her husband wasnt allowed access to the cabinet keys same as my wife isnt to mine, but my wife shoots with me every week and they probably knew he would be shooting with her anyway.Another line of thought for you I attended a clay shoot a few weeks ago when a guy walked up to talk to me, he recognised me from banning him from one of the pubs my wife ran he was banned because of drugs found on him, later on he was jailed for burglary aggravated assault etc etc which funded his habit, this guy attends local clubs hires guns and buys cartridges to use,and stood beside me armed on a down the line and being sarcastic and cocky about the time he got slung out of the pub strange this can happen eh,Id still rather be standing next to my GBH convicted mate.
  11. Cant see why the guns would need to dissapear from the household a friend of mine lost his licence after being done for GBH on a daft night out,the police took the guns away,a local dealer picked them up and stored them for him until his wifes shotgun application came through four months later.

  13. No Im not unaware there may be changes just unaware they allready happened if they did.
  14. Called in to a local clay club on my way home the other day to be met by some of the most solemn crew going, Ive known these guys for years and somehow its got into thier heads that thier shooting days are over and they will be stopped under new legislation now in force on doctors reports and medicals, in fact three I spoke to are at this time selling up and packing in and another guy whos shot for years is packing his licence in and paying to store his guns at a club so he can still shoot,Am I missing something when did this come about doctors reports on meds and medicals who pays for this, I just happened to mention one of the painkillers I take three times a day and after lots of teeth sucking and oohs and aahs from the guys it seems I certainly wont be shooting at my next application according to them, and seemingly a well known mag has produced a list of ailments and meds that will fail you from ever shooting again, anyone seen this. I certainly havent they couldnt believe I hadnt read the (new rules) and advise I need to act now, they were that serious about it comments like whens the last time you went to a dealers or bought a magazine to read come to mind and have you not read the new rules er cant find them anywhere so I must be missing something or do I need to dust the fishing gear off.
  15. What about the lovely new drill.

    why shoot ?

I was born on lord mowbray stortons estate my dad was a tenant farmer of his and I guess the hunting and shooting came as part of everyday life. I grew up with it and as well as a way of feeding the family and making a bit extra money by selling stuff on, it was a part of life we had to learn at a very young age, I could kill and clean anything at 7-8 year old rabbits/pigeons/chickens/etc and once got a bloody good slap round the head for taking my dads gun out of the pantry and shooting a fox on the school field I was 7 at the time (ouch),my dad still gave me the tail later that night so wasnt so bad.Another of the things I remember most was riding on top of a chocka full game cart after a days pheasant shooting and picking up after the guns there was no restriction on numbers then and shoots went on from first light until dark,my mum says I would have been around 4 years old at the time and my younger brother was sitting with me on the back with my two older brothers steering the carts. These were big events then and I guess it just sticks with you theres been a lot of changes since,Happy days.
