remmy 11-87 3inch chambered multichoke

The screw cap that holds the forend on (well holds it altogether) is seized solid, we cant get the ****** off and want to check the o-ring and give it a clean before using it as it hasnt been used for about 2 years!

any ideas the best way of getting it off without damaging it...molegrips was my first thought but dont really want to damage it if we dont have to!?

also..are they proofed for steel shot??

my dad is going to be using it for geese and ducks... will it take the 3inch steel mammoth 36gram 3s??

Thanks

My 11-87 SP is proofed for steel and 3" cartridges, and a mate has just bought one which came with a choke marked 'Full..steel and lead'.I would get in touch with your gundealer if in doubt,or have a look at Remingtons' website.

Regards the fore-end cap;they are made from a light material and can be crushed with 'grips,so again, consult your dealer or wrap acloth round it before attempting to twist off.If your dealer crushes it,at least he'll have to supply a new one!

You could try one of those oil filter grips - the plastic handle with rubber strap on nut -- I bought a 391 receintly and couldn't undo cap so seller put pressure on it and tapped stock on floor just came loose - thing is with 391 it has spring under cap which 1187 doesn't so be carefull -- I have read somewhere else if all fails put gun barrel down and pour some oil down mag tube - it should eventually end up in nut.

If you have my sort of luck with it the mag tube will come out first.
